Live survey conducted during the db Online Talk “New Construction with AI!”

Munich, June 26, 2026 – Artificial intelligence is increasingly establishing itself as a practical tool in architecture and planning firms. This was recently demonstrated by a live survey conducted as part of an online talk on the topic “New Construction with AI!” The event’s panelists were Prof. Michael Holze from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Stefan Kaufmann, Head of Product AI at ALLPLAN.

AI Use Already Established in Many Firms

Around 400 professionals from the fields of architecture, planning, and construction participated in the event. The survey conducted during the talk shows that AI has now found its way into many offices: more than half of those surveyed already actively use AI in their daily work. 21 percent work with AI applications regularly several times a week, while another 11 percent already use AI daily as an integral part of their work. 26 percent use AI at least occasionally, while 18 percent have rarely used the technology so far.

Greatest Added Value in Research and Visualization

It became particularly clear in which areas users currently see the greatest benefit. For 81 percent of participants, the most important fields of application are currently research, text work, and protocols. 26 percent are already actively using AI for visualization, rendering, and image generation. Project organization and documentation are also becoming increasingly important.

The talk focused on current developments surrounding AI-supported design, visualization, and planning processes. Using concrete examples, Prof. Michael Holze demonstrated how various AI tools can be used to develop visualizations, models, and presentations from initial sketches within a short period of time.

“AI is already changing the way projects are planned and implemented,” says Stefan Kaufmann, Product Manager for Innovation and AI at ALLPLAN. “In early project phases especially, AI opens up new possibilities for creating variants more quickly, visualizing ideas, and preparing more informed decisions. At the same time, AI is increasingly becoming an integral part of end-to-end BIM workflows—for example, in parametric models, structural analyses, automated quantity takeoff, or data-driven assessments regarding costs, material efficiency, and sustainability.”

The survey results underscore that AI is increasingly being used in the day-to-day operations of architecture and planning firms—especially where processes can be accelerated, variants evaluated more quickly, and digital workflows made more efficient.
